1. Get It Clean. A clean car has nothing to hide and will always give the impression that it has been well looked after. Spend some time on the interior and make sure you give it a quick hoover out. Ask your self this question. Would you buy a dirty or messy car? People will pay a little extra for a clean well presented vehicle! ( dont forget the boot) People always forget and this can usually be the worst place having held muddy boots etc.

2. Paperwork. Always make sure you have the paperwork to hand. Potential buyers will want to know all sorts of things and this could include MOT expiry or the last service date. If you keep all the paperwork together it will save time and enable you to give a speedy response to an eager buyer.

3. Fix Any Faults. Make sure that everything on the car works. If a bulb has blown or something is not working correctly then this will cause the buyer to look very carefully at everything else. Problems may become the centre for discussion when the price gets negotiated so have a car thats in full working order to prevent potential haggling.

4. MOT. If the vehicle has a short MOT then you may consider getting a new one. Buyers want a car that they can drive away and not have to worry about. A long MOT is a good sign that the car you are selling has been well maintained and they can be sure that they dont need to worry for a while about the potential for MOT repairs.

5. Insurance. Always check your insurance when allowing someone else to drive your car. A potential buyer will usually want to drive the car to see how it handles and check for unusual noises etc. The main concern here is to satisfy your self that they are covered by insurance to do so, either by them or by you. The last thing you want when selling a car is an accident only to find that there is no cover. Some fully comprehensive insurance policies do allow another person to drive 3rd party but always check first.

6. Payment. This is a crucial part in the sale of a vehicle. Most cars are a considerable value and you want to make sure you get paid. Only except cash or a bankers draft as payment. A personal cheque can be taken but make absolutely sure that it is clear before you release the car. A deposit is normally asked for to show good will from the buyer that they are serious about purchase. The amount should be at your discretion but normally at least £50.

7. Fill in the Logbook. The best free advice we can give and One of the most important jobs is to fill in the logbook. It is the responsibility of the registered keeper to fill this in and while your name is listed you are accountable for road tax and any fines etc. Make sure you transfer the ownership to the new keeper to protect yourself from any unwanted suprises.

8. Buyers from abroad. Please be warned that there is currently a scam running involving buyers from abroad and fraud cheques. Please see the news section for full details. Because of this we no longer publish your email address within advertisments or pass them on to any of our affiliate sites.

If you follow these simple steps you'll find that priced correctly your car should sell very easily with the minimum of fuss. Print this free advice checklist off and make sure you dont miss anything.

Good luck and happy selling!
